1/1/2009 Homeschool Review

We had a halfway lazy homeschool week this preparing for halloween, ward halloween party, and science class. For science class we studied comets, meteors, and solar eclipses. Here's a video we watched of a solar eclipse.

We read the story of Cornelia's Jewel's. I had never heard this story until earlier this year so it was fun to read it with the kids. Here is Eva's narration:
"Two boys were standing in the garden and watching their mother and her friend going in the garden. One boy thought how beautiful their mother's friend was. The older one thought their mother was beautiful. The mother told the boys that she was going to show them some of her friend's jewels. When they saw the jewels they wished their mother had some. And then the mother's friend said "Is it true you don't have any jewels in the world?" The mother got her sons to her and said "These are my jewels."

One of the highlights of the week was pulling food items out of the cabinets and playing "store." I put pricetags on each food and the kids got to shop and then use coins to pay me.

Often at dinnertime Cody teaches the kids a new word. Tonight the word was compassion. After they learned what it meant Wesley said "When Eva got punished I had compassion." What a sweet boy. He also asked if the people who watched Jesus on the cross had compassion.
