Eva has been learning about spiders at Eagleridge and informed me this week that they can have up to 100 eyes. Who knew?
For math we've been learning about money. Eva and Wes have learned each coin and what they're worth. Eva and I play a game where we ask each other for a certain amount of money (less than $1) and we have to come up with the change from the coins we have.
For literature we read some Aesop's fables - The Ass and His Driver and The Oxen and the Wheels
Here is Eva's narration from The Ass and His Driver:
"A donkey was going to go down a mountain when he saw a quicker way. So he tried to go down the cliff, but just then his driver saw him and tried to pull him by his tail. The donkey pulled with all his might so the driver said, "okay, go your own way." So he let go and the donkey tumbled down the mountain. The end. If you don't obey someone then you might get hurt or something."
Wesley is reinforcing his letters and I am starting to use The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading by Jessie Wise and Sara Buffington. Teaching letters to Eva was a breeze but Wesley seems to have less retention so this book is coming in handy and the lessons are short enough that they keep his attention.
This week we also started learning the Articles of Faith and have memorized the first 4.
For this term we are studying some of the works of Raphael Sanzio. Wesley knows him because he was named after a ninja turtle :) We study one work of Raphael's a week. Cody has a nice color printer so he prints off a picture for each of the children. I have them look at it for a few minutes and then turn it over and tell me what they remember. Then they look at it again and then we break out the colored pencils and they draw the work themselves from memory. Someday when I learn how to upload their drawings, I'll post them.
